Network Administrator

Descriptive Summary
This position is responsible for the support and maintenance of corporate information systems and security. The successful candidate will have three years’ experience and a solid working understanding of network security, including an ability to configure and support intrusion detection systems, VPNs, and firewalls. An understanding of IP networking, such as routers, routing protocols, and switches also is important. This position requires oversight of organizational responsibilities to meet or exceed business objectives and Service Level Agreements. In addition to network security, the position requires troubleshooting of hardware, software, peripherals, connectivity, and security policy issues as needed. This position requires the staff to research, test, and evaluate solutions, including hardware. The position also requires the individual to develop and document new procedures and standards as required by business activities (e.g., HIPAA). The position also requires the individual to work with other IT groups and user groups to meet or exceed company objectives. Good communication and interpersonal skills are required. This position will be providing services for an enterprise-class system where access to sensitive information exists.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the smooth operation of communication networks in order to provide maximum performance and availability for users (staff, clients, customers, etc.)
  • Provides support for a multiple-location network
  • Assists with installation, configuration, upgrades, migrations, and maintenance of new and existing hardware and software infrastructure
  • Sets up user accounts, permissions, and passwords
  • Undertakes routine preventive measures and implementation, maintenance, and network security monitoring
  • Provides training and technical support for users with varying levels of IT knowledge and competence
  • Assists help desk personnel and team as needed
  • Works closely with other departments and organizations and collaborates with other IT staff and clients
  • Provides professional and courteous service to customers and staff
  • Manages multiple tasks and assignments efficiently, operates independently, and has a strong level of attention to detail
  • Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves issues in an efficient and timely manner; coordinates with other team members to resolve problems when necessary
  • Assists in the creation and maintenance of policies, procedures, and other documentation
  • Communicates moderately complex and technical information, ideas, and results effectively in both oral and written form; composes correspondence
  • Performs Continuity of Operations (COOP) and Disaster Recovery activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • At least three years of network administration experience plus a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; must have strong analytical and problem-resolution skills
  • Ability to take initiative, maintain confidentiality, remain flexible, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate with people at all levels, strong interpersonal skills, and superior organizational skills
  • Excellent customer service and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility to work overtime and on weekends in support of special requests (minimal)
  • Willingness to travel (10-15%)
  • Routing and switching experience with solid networking fundamentals
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision by managers and to lead and assist junior team members in resolving both routine and non-routine problems
  • Ability to track and report progress on a weekly basis to Director of IT
  • Experience working in a high-stress, fast-paced, detail-oriented environment
  • Ability to juggle multiple competing deadlines
  • Ability to function as the technical lead on small projects or portions of larger projects
  • Experience solving problems to develop recommendations for business solutions or technical applications
  • Understanding of and experience with server installation and maintenance
  • Understanding of relational databases including Oracle and MySQL as well as experience with Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Experience with Apache Tomcat and Oracle backups
  • Experience with Virtual server applications (VMware preferably)
  • Experience with Linux OS
  • Experience with firewalls and patch updates
  • Experience with failover automation
