DESCRIPTIVE SUMMARY

The Senior Health Data Analyst is a leader in analyzing data for improving health care delivery, supporting health policy initiatives and programs, and informing healthcare transformation initiatives. The analyst develops new reports and products. The analyst investigates, understands, analyzes, and communicates our data to our customers. The analyst serves as the go-to resource for technical questions around analytic approach/methodology, problem solving, quality assurance review, and general technical advice. The analyst also provides support and leadership on the Analytic Team, helping to mentor and train junior Health Data Analysts and works effectively across the organization to ensure clients’ needs are met in a timely and high quality manner. The analyst interfaces with clients, develops and delivers presentations, and may be expected to provide project management for some projects. The candidate must be detail oriented, capable of learning independently, and able to work on multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

        Serve as the lead analyst on one or more complex client engagements or projects. Able to interface independently with clients on complex projects or new development initiatives.

        Advanced coding (SAS, SQL) skills and prior experience working with large datasets

        Serve as a subject matter expert/go-to person for internal questions and client questions on one or more topics (e.g., measures, Onpoint data systems, groupers, Medicaid, risk adjustment, research design, project management, ACOs, network analysis, health policy, health economics)

        Contribute to business development initiatives, including scoping out new ad hoc work, identifying solutions for client requests, writing content for RFPs, etc.

        May serve project management role for internal and external analytic projects as needed

        Lead internal and external projects with multiple analysts, helping to divide/delegate work among the team when needed

        Provide guidance/mentoring/quality assurance role for junior analysts on projects

        Regularly deepen knowledge of health care system and other relevant issues through conference attendance, reading of journals, and other efforts

        Resourceful - able to complete work in an efficient manner, balance priorities, and suggest solutions to address competing business priorities

        Communicate effectively with clients in person and in writing 

        Give presentations to user groups and customers

        Lead development of significant new Onpoint products, analyses, and reports or implementation of new analytic

initiatives 

        Investigate unusual findings in the data and explains or proposes solutions to remediate them

        Lead and/or support organization-wide process improvement initiatives

 

General 

        Balance multiple projects, coordinating with management and project leads to organize priorities

        A subject matter expert in one or more key topics of interest (e.g., All Payer Claims Data, Onpoint’s data systems, statistical analysis, data visualization, groupers, research design, health insurance, public health, health policy, health economics, and/or other health data topics).

        An expert in relational databases and reporting

        Actively seek opportunities to learn and contribute more to the team

 

Other 

        Understand the value that Onpoint places on maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of our corporate and client data and meet applicable privacy and security compliance requirements

        Ensure that Onpoint and client data is accessed, handled, processed, transmitted, disclosed, and stored according to operational and IT policies and procedures

        Immediately report any suspected or actual violation of privacy and security policies or unauthorized access or disclosure of Onpoint or client data

        Understand that compliance with all privacy and security policies, laws, and regulations is part of each employee's annual performance evaluation

        Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in the Onpoint Health Data Employee Handbook

        Perform all other duties as assigned

 

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

        Masters or PhD in sciences, mathematics, or another major with an emphasis on analytical or quantitative skills development, with 5+ years of experience working in a similar field, or Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of equivalent work experience

        Experience in health care data and analysis, health information technology, relational databases, statistics, and/or knowledge of querying and analytical tools (SAS, SQL, Tableau, Excel) preferred

        Experience with health policy or health economics preferred

        Experience working with healthcare claims data preferred

        Technical knowledge of healthcare coding systems (e.g., CPT/HCPCS, ICD-9, NDC), classification groupers (e.g., DRGs, APCs, APGs, CCSs, ETGs, CRGs, Red Book®), and specific payer types (i.e., Medicare, Medicaid, commercial) preferred

        Some project management experience or experience leading teams is desirable

        Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills

        Proficiency utilizing Excel to work with and analyze data sets

        Excellent verbal and written communication skills

        Experience working with clients in a professional environment

        Ability to work independently on complex projects

        Detail-oriented

        Experience handling multiple projects while successfully meeting deliverable due dates 

        Experience working collaboratively as well as independently within multidisciplinary teams

        Ability to lead by example, creating an environment oriented to open communications without losing focus
