
Karl Finison has been an integral member of Onpoint’s research team since 1992, earning widespread recognition for his expansive knowledge and incisive analyses. Mr. Finison has helmed much of Onpoint’s research and advises Onpoint’s team of analysts on new analytic initiatives. His areas of expertise include statistical analysis methods; healthcare utilization, cost, and quality measures; and other analytic tools. Mr. Finison is expert in administrative claims, vital statistics, and other health data sources.
Mr. Finison authored the first multi-state analysis of geographical variation in expenditures and utilization using state-mandated, commercial, all-payer claims databases and has worked on a wide range of projects with multi-state and national scope. Mr. Finison leads Onpoint’s analytics development, advising our analysts on topics that include measurement calculation, web-based public reporting, SAS-based analysis and reporting methods, and report design and deployment.
Prior to joining Onpoint, Mr. Finison worked as a healthcare researcher with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health before joining Blue Cross Blue Shield as a systems analyst. He also has completed extensive coursework in epidemiology, public health, and biostatistics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; at the Tufts Epidemiology Summer Institute (MA); and at the University of Southern Maine.
