Onpoint Releases Report on 2024 Health Care Spending & Employment in Virginia

January 20, 2026 – A newly released analysis from Onpoint Health Data – “Tracking Virginia’s 2024 Health Care Spending & Employment Trends” – finds that while Virginia’s personal health care (PHC) spending per capita continued to be lower than the national average, the change in its total PHC spending from 2023 to 2024 (9.9%) was higher than the national average of 7.2%.

Kate has more than 20 years of experience in public health research and epidemiology and a deep understanding of how clinical and claims data can be leveraged to support complex analyses. With a background that spans academia, large health systems, and the federal government, Kate brings unmatched expertise to our analytic work. In her previous role as an associate research professor at the University of Southern Maine’s Muskie School of Public Service, her research focused on maternal and child health, rural disparities, and opioid use disorder, topics she has explored in more than 150 papers published over the course of her career. At Onpoint, she helps design complex analytic projects and translates data into meaningful insights to support value-based care and program evaluation. Navigating Medicare Reference Pricing: Key Takeaways from Our Latest “Onpointer: Data Insights” Session

July 2025 – Onpoint Health Data recently hosted a user group session focused on helping our clients deepen their understanding of Medicare reference pricing — a methodology and tool used to analyze healthcare spending and benchmark total cost of care against a standard rate. As an increasing number of organizations seek to assess the relative cost of care across comparable services and providers, leveraging Medicare rates as a standardized reference point is useful in informing policy decisions.

Onpoint Health Data Launches Innovative Multi-State Behavioral Health Dashboards

January 27, 2025 – A new report from Onpoint Health Data – “Tracking Virginia’s 2023 Health Care Spending & Employment Trends” – evaluates critical aspects of Virginia’s health economy and provides actionable insights for policymakers, businesses, and health care stakeholders. The new report examines a series of key metrics, including spending growth, insurance premium, and out-of-pocket spending trends; enrollment patterns; and employment data to offer a comprehensive view of trends through 2023. Onpoint’s report builds upon previous reporting by Altarum while leveraging updated methodologies and an additional year of data to provide the latest insights and perspective.

Creating a Framework to Help Vermont Curb Rising Drug Prices

January 2025 – Addressing the escalating costs of prescription drugs is a key focus of many states as they work to increase access to care while reducing its financial burden. On January 15, Vermont’s Green Mountain Care Board (GMCB) continued the state’s work in this area, releasing a preliminary report to the state legislature on implementing a new program to regulate the cost of prescription drugs. Vermont joins several other states – including Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, and Washington – that have taken similar steps to curb the growing cost of pharmaceuticals.

This March 2022 user group session provides an overview of the changing codes, billing rules, and data enhancements for both COVID-19 and telehealth services. It will discuss telehealth services, how they are coded, and which codes and billing rules are permanent and which instead are related to the pandemic.

We’ll also offer an update on the coding and billing guidelines related to COVID-19, including a review of the various COVID-19 diagnosis and procedure codes (e.g., COVID infection, long COVID, personal history of COVID, vaccination, testing, treatment), how they are reported on claims, and what to look for when working with APCD data.
