A newly released analysis from Onpoint Health Data – “Tracking Virginia’s 2024 Health Care Spending & Employment Trends” – finds that while Virginia’s personal health care (PHC) spending per capita continued to be lower than the national average, the change in its total PHC spending from 2023 to 2024 (9.9%) was higher than the national average of 7.2%.

Creating a Framework to Help Vermont Curb Rising Drug Prices

Addressing the escalating costs of prescription drugs is a key focus of many states as they work to increase access to care while reducing its financial burden. On January 15, Vermont’s Green Mountain Care Board (GMCB) continued the state’s work in this area, releasing a preliminary report to the state legislature on implementing a new program to regulate the cost of prescription drugs. Vermont joins several other states – including Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, and Washington – that have taken similar steps to curb the growing cost of pharmaceuticals.

Onpoint Begins Work as Maryland’s New APCD Vendor

Following a competitive procurement in late 2021, the state of Maryland selected Onpoint Health Data to take over data management and analytic services for the state’s all-payer claims database (APCD), the Maryland Medical Care Data Base (MCDB). NESCSO Engages Onpoint to Develop Analysis of New England States’ Investment in Primary Care

Onpoint recently completed a first-of-its-kind analysis of statewide investments in primary care across all six New England states – Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The study, “The New England States’ All-Payer Report on Primary Care Payments,” was sponsored by the New England States Consortium Systems Organization (NESCSO), a coalition governed by the New England states’ Health and Human Services agencies and the University of Massachusetts Medical School, with supplemental funding provided by the Milbank Memorial Fund. The study was made possible through close collaboration across multiple organizations and state teams.

Federal Act Targets Surprise Billing & Offers Funding to Bolster APCDs

In December 2020, Congress approved the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, which includes a series of provisions that aim to increase transparency in several key areas of healthcare service delivery. Using APCD Data to Identify Young People with High Mental-Health Needs

Together with our partners at the Vermont Blueprint for Health, Onpoint has leveraged data from Vermont’s APCD to identify the population of pediatric patients with mental-health diagnoses and explore patterns in patients’ healthcare utilization and cost. Specifically, the State of Vermont was interested in identifying a high-utilizer subgroup of young people (ages 1-21 years) with mental-health diagnoses that might benefit from a mobile response unit initiative designed to improve access to mental-health services and reduce the need for emergency department visits and inpatient admissions for mental-health purposes.

Clients Leveraging APCDs for COVID-19 Analytics

Onpoint’s analysts have been working with state governments and other clients to generate baseline data to support state and regional resource planning and modeling efforts in response to COVID-19. Our initial analyses have focused on determining the number and prevalence of patients who have respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, cancers, and other health conditions that may make these patients more susceptible to hospitalization from COVID-19.

Onpoint Partners with IHA & Duke-Margolis to Examine Trends in California’s Seriously Ill Population
